How Can severe Lower Rib Cage Pain Be Treated?

I woke Sunday with rib pain on lower ribs both sides. Since Monday it only hurts on right lower ribs. Painful to touch, when I sneeze, cough, or yawn. Couldn t bend Monday. More mobile today. Upper abdomen seems bloated, but under ribs it seems to be indented on both sides. This has never occurred before. I had the flu two weeks ago, but I ve been fine until Sunday. I tried Deep Blue rub and tylenol. Suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on the history given, it is possible that there was soft tissue injury to the area. The fact that there is an improvement in your symptoms is good.

You should consider using an anti-inflammatory medication to help improve your symptoms faster, e.g. Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Cataflam etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James,
